Noon Gate in Hue

Noon Gate was built towards the noon direction. It is a special gate because of the massive size and unique architecture. Also, this is a very convenient location for visitors to admire the scenery of Hue.

Hue capital is the ancient citadel where the Nguyen Dynasty was settled down during 140 years (1805-1945). Currently, Hue capital is one of the relics of relic system in Hue and recognized as the world cultural heritage by UNESCO. Visiting Hue Citadel, you will be impressive with the Noon Gate – the main South gate and the largest gate of the 4 main gates in Hue capital.

To the architecture, the Noon Gate has similar architecture to the Noon Gate in Beijing but it still reflects the architectural style of Vietnam. The Noon Gate has two main parts including the Station gate and Ngu Phung floor. The station part – the gate in U-shaped, 57,77m long and the side is in 27,06m long. It was built in brick stone, combined with the bars bearing pressure. The station is nearly 5m high, 1.560m2 area. The body of the station is divided into 5 entrances. The middle aisle is just for the King. Two sides are for the Armor. Two entrances outside are for the soldiers, elephants and horses.

Ngu Phung floor is located above the station. In addition to the station, the floor was also enhanced by a high floor system in 1.15m high throughout the U-shaped body. Ngu Phung floor has two floors with 100 pillars. The roofs are stick together and run around to cover for the corridor. Upstairs roof is divided into 9 sets with lots of decorative eagle at the top edge, which looks very gentle and serene.

The Noon Gate has not only unique architecture but also the feudal history. This gate has a special location. Standing on the Ngu Phung floor, you can admire the scenery around the Hue city. This is a relatively large structure which witnessed many important historical events. On 23rd of August, 1945, the flag of the Vietnam was first flown in here, signaling an end of the monarchy. Ky Dai is not only a unique architecture but also a symbol of the imperial city of Hue. The distance between Ky Dai and Noon Gate is Ngo Mon Square.

Noon Gate is one of the ancient architectures which are typical for Ngu Mountain, Perfume river. Although this project has gone through more than a half century under the natural storms and devastating war, thanks to the ingenious techniques and proficient architecture, this construction still exists. Let’s take a visit to the Imperial city of Hue to see the residence of the feudal dynasties and the history of the nation. Noon Gate is the place which witnessed many important historical events. It still took place the most important ceremonies of the Nguyen Dynasty as Mass Care Committee. On 25th of August 1945, at Noon gate, Bao Dai King – the last emperor of Vietnam, had proclaimed abdication manifesto and handed back to the provisional government of the Vietnam.
